Documents reveal the government considered shelling the pirate station over fears it would broadcast slurs over his alleged affair Wilson’s government considered threatening to shell the abandoned sea-fort Other plans involved dropping Marines on to the disused naval fortification off the Suffolk coast in order to bring about ‘the surrender of the occupants’ The government’s focus on Radio Caroline coincided with the station launching a smear campaign against Mr Wilson Bron : The Daily Mail (krant)
Geplaatst 19 oktober 20186 jr. The article is about Roughs Tower, now Sealand. Radio Caroline never broadcast from Roughs Tower, the Bates family retook it. When Bill Scadden and others went out to reclaim it Bates defended it with guns and petrol bombs. Caroline was interested in using it as a supply base. The government wanted to reclaim it. Civil servants looked at its status and options as to how to proceed to do this. Harold Wilson declined the option to storm the fort by helicopter, clipping from Holding The Fort, Prince Michael or Sealand, 2015. They did blow up Sunk Head, outside territorial waters, on 21 August 1967 to prevent its future use. This had previously been used for Radio Tower and then abandoned.I remember hearing promotions for material, about presumably the alleged affair between Harold Wilson and his private and political secretary Marcia Falkender, to be broadcast, think the title was The Secret Life of Harold Wilson. This affair was hinted at Private Eye at the time. This announcement on Caroline was broadcast shortly before the MOA and only for a short period of time. As the article says nothing was ever broadcast. The Daily Mail is not the best newspaper and known for sensational headlines, this article was dismissed as inaccurate on anorak groups at the time of publication.
