This is interesting. It is a test transmission hosted by engineer John Lumsden from 0230-0245. It was actually after the station had officially closed for the night. I think this would be September 1966 as he mentions that You can't hurry love was number 1 in the charts.

En opgenomen in Duitsland.

'' JOHN LUMSDEN Chief Engineer on Radio Scotland, John was also heard on air asking for reception reports and presenting a DX programme.

He was later the chief engineer for Glasgow's Radio Clyde before moving to Florida where he ran an engineering company.

DJ Ben Healy writes: “the engineers are unsung heroes as they were on call 24 hours a day and in many instances worked a lot of those 24 hours. John Lumsden was a very good engineer and played a very big part in keeping Radio Scotland on the air.''

This recording is actually from 25th December 1973 and at the end of the tape Norman mentions they plan having a link up with RNI and that happened on Christmas Day.

If I remember correctly they only made a very brief test on 26th December, before starting full testing on the 28th.

Thanks for this recording.

Should be Radio Marina Int. testing from the Mebo 2, in January 1971, off the Belgian Coast.

(Of course aborted project)

Caroline was alleen met de kerstdagen in de lucht. Toen Mi Amigo begon, kwam na een week radio Seagull terug in de lucht. Pas twee maand later werd het station terug Caroline.

According to Monitor magazine a brief test was made on the 26th December.

Boxing Day (26th) was something of an anti-climax, the station did not switch on until 09.15 GMT, and after playing some continuous music vanished at 09.46 GMT as suddenly as it had appeared; Thus, Radio Caroline celebrated Christmas 1973.
