Nog even over het programma van Judy Murphy van 09 tot 12 uur:

Zij draaide hierin de tracks die geen hits werden in het jaar 1988 onder de titel: The ones that got away 

Dit als voorafje van de Top 60 van 1988, dat hierna kwam.

Dit programma kwam vanaf tape, omdat zij rond de kerst al van boord was gegaan. Het zou tevens haar laatste programma voor Radio Caroline zijn. 

 

Ik maak hier meteen gebruik van de mogelijkheid jou te bedanken voor alle programma's die je het afgelopen jaar gedeeld hebt met ons. Vooral dit item spreekt mij erg aan.

Volgend jaar gaan we naar 1989 met als dieptepunt voor de zeezenderfreaks 19 augustus 1989. Nog altijd bestempeld als "Black Saturday" voor ons. Maar dat is pas voor de komende zomer.

Ik wens een fijne jaarwisseling en alle goeds voor 2024.

Except for the first minute (news report), this is actually a duplicate of most of the first hour of Judy Murphy's show (Caroline-19881231-1000-1100-JudyMurphy), albeit in better quality.

 

Explanation from Anoraks UK issue 243:

 

"At 10:00, the promised Judy Murphy show 'The Ones That Got Away' was aired. This was started a couple of minutes early, and also the time-checks were all one hour out. This was completed at 11:58, when Steve Conway (with Nigel Harris and Neil Gates also in the studio) gave a tribute and farewell to Judy, saying she would be greatly missed and was a wonderful person."

 

It's an excellent 2 hour programme of supposed "flops". The playlist is given on the Janfrevos site. Some notes:

 

• "Talkin' 'bout a Revolution" is by Tracy Chapman (...not Tanita Tikaram).

 

• The song played before the weather is "Rookies Revenge" by Lou.

 

• "Beds Are Burning" by Midnight Oil is obviously not a flop (it was a worldwide hit and reached no. 6 in the UK chart). Judy says it was played in place of "The Dead Heart" because their copy got "damaged in the storm".

 

• The show starts and ends with tracks by a American rock band who didn't have a top 40 hit until about 6 months later: R.E.M. (Little-known in the UK, but Judy will have been very familiar with them... "The One I Love" was a top 10 hit in the USA; top 20 in Canada).
